Students and preceptors undergo evaluations at the end of May, August and December of each year. At that time they will meet and fill out evaluations on each other, fill in the College transcripts with the completed course-work grades and the number of clinical experiences acquired during the trimester, fill in Syllabi for the coming trimester and send all these to the College. They also write their plan for the next trimester, showing how they will approach any problems expressed in the mutual evaluations.

Students must achieve 80% on their midwifery module work for the work to be considered satisfactory. Preceptors may use actual grades or Pass/Fail on the transcripts. Passing is understood to be 80%. The College allows students to repeat any section of a module until they pass it. It is the student’s responsibility to set up these meetings with their preceptors at the end of each trimester.

Students must insure that their preceptors are signing off their clinical experiences and NARM skills as they go, so that if student and preceptor are unexpectedly separated, verification of clinical experiences is up-to-date.

The College administration is available for assistance with evaluation questions.

Evaluation Procedure for Students and Preceptors

  1. The student and preceptor will fill out the appropriate sections of the Student/Preceptor evaluation form which is taken to the evaluation session. During the session student and preceptor will list and review the student’s grades, clinical and academic achievements to date and any grievances on the forms provided. They will decide whether progress is satisfactory and what improvements can be made.
  2. The preceptor and student will discuss the evaluations and write a brief joint plan for the following trimester. The preceptor will write in any grades and clinical experiences on the student record and will sign and date it.
  3. The evaluations, student record and Syllabi for the upcoming trimester will be filed with the College within 30 days of the end of each trimester.
