Guidelines
- Will be based on your original research.
- Will demonstrate that the candidate can both do science and write science
- Should incorporate your original data, supported by experimental detail.
- Should include a review of the work of others, related to your research.
- Should include a history of your subject.
- Should include the following sections:
- Introduction
- Include the background, nature and scope of the problem, explain how and why you selected
- Review pertinent literature to orient the reader.
- Describe your method of investigation and reasons for selecting this method..
- Describe your principal results; describe what you learned in the course of your research.
- Materials and Methods
- Give exact technical specification, quantities, sources, methods of preparation, animals, plants, microorganisms identified, etc.
- Human subjects: describe the criteria for their selection, include your Òinformed consentÓ.
- Methods are described chronologically or together where they are related.
- Feature and discuss data, not statistics.
- Advanced or unusual statistical methods require literature citation.
- Results
- Provide an overall description of the experiments
- Present the representative data.
- Discussion
- Present the principles, relationships and generalizations shown by the results.
- Point out exceptions, any lack of correlation, any unsettled points.
- Compare and or contrast your results with previously published work.
- Describe theoretical and practical applications of your work.
- Clearly state your conclusions and their significance.
- Summarize the evidence for each conclusion.
- Acknowledgements include:
- Significant technical helpers
- Sources of special material
- Sources of financial assistance
- References
- List the significant published references using the Citation Order System.
