GRADUATE PROGRAMS' GUIDELINES FOR RESEARCH PROPOSALS

First, your research must do no harm, and second, it must relate to the field of midwifery or maternal/child health.

The Research Proposal:
this is what is sent to the NCM for approval before beginning your project. Read our Research Submission Guidelines for when the research proposal should be submitted

Your proposal must include the following:

  1. Purpose: Make a statement explaining exactly what you are trying to figure out.
  2. Hypothesis: this should be a statement of what you think you will find.
  3. Procedure:
    1. Research: This should be a review of the current available literature on your topic.

    2. Experiment: This describes how you will test your hypothesis. You should include:
      1. The minimum number of subjects or cases, etc., you will provide, review examine. Remember, the greater the number studied, the more valid the information.
      2. The instruments you will use to collect your data, e.g. questionnaires, data-collecting forms, etc.
      3. The way these will be counted or scored.

    3. Results: How will you present your results, such as lists of numbers comparing results, graphs illustrating results, etc.

    4. Conclusion: What is the importance of your research project? What else might it lead to? What other related areas may need to be researched to flesh out your project?
